A E O / Authorized Economic Operator.
Momentarily a lot of big companies are applying for AEO certification. In the Netherlands at least 1000 companies have already been certified, but also in other EU countries companies are busy applying for and getting ready for AEO certification.
In total an estimated 20.000 companies could be qualified for this AEO certificate, either AEO for Customs Simplifications or AEO for Security. Naturally a combination of both is most common, the combined certificate for Customs Simplifications and Security.
Tax and Customs administration meantime opened a website in which all companies are listed that already have the AEO status (* see links)
To apply for this license usually takes a lot of work and energy within the entire organisation, however, achieving this certification makes you an interesting international trade partner. You can dispose of Domproc, domicilic procedures because of which your business process is simplified and accelerated.
You will also have to deal less with physical - and often time-consuming Customs checks. Your entire supply-chain can be stimulated in a positive way by this.
Your automation and IT department have an important role in achieving this AEO status. After all, it is because of the automation within your organisation people work in a safe but also a clear and efficient way. To do this your business processes should be mapped entirely. These processes should be completely described and implemented within your company. They should also be summarised in the so called AO/IMM.
